| Daydreams Quilt |
In this edition of the blog, you might be introduced to a brand-new quilt. In this episode of the blog you may encounter a new quilt!
Welcome fellow quilters! Today I'm in the gorgeous, and very beginner friendly, pattern that's been on my radar lately – the Daydreams Quilt, created by lovely Amanda Castor of Material Girl Quilts. I can't get my fill of how this crisp geometric pattern looks with this beautiful Ava Kate Collection by Carina Gardner for Riley Blake Designs, the pattern directions are based on a different fabric collection, but I am totally in love with this one.
Ava Kate's rich romantic florals, deep reds, soft blush tones, and black to the extreme prints add a whole new, sophisticated vintage flair to this design. It offers a great combination of drama and traditional piecing with good contrasts.

Versatile Sizing & Fabric Requirements
Amanda's pattern is one of the best as it is incredibly flexible. It is designed to be sewn up in two easy sizes using only handy precut stackers, whether you're looking for a quick weekend wall hanging or a cosy couch lap quilt.
- This size quilt is perfect for a mini wall display or a stylish table quilt and needs 1 yard of backing and 1/4 yard of binding fabric, along with 1 5" print stacker (charm pack) and 1 5" Riley White Solid stacker.
- The 64" Throw Quilt is a great scale up version of the design made with a 10" print stacker (layer cake) and a 10" solid stacker and calls for 4 yards of backing and 1/2 yard for binding.
Clever Construction: Efficiency at the Machine.
This quilt is a true joy technically. The design is 100% based on 1/4" seam allowances and is made up on the right sides (RST). Half-square triangles (or HSTs) will make you appreciate how the pattern is handled if this type of clever sewing shortcuts are a love of yours that will save time without compromising accuracy.
This is not sewn together by individual triangles, but a very efficient 8-at-a-time HST method. You make two squares with one being a print and one being solid and then sew 1/4" away from each of the ‘X’ diagonal lines that you make on the wrong side of the solid square. A series of horizontal, vertical and diagonal cuts makes eight clean and identical HSTs in a flash. These are cut down, mixed with copy print squares and solid squares, and made into 16 identical blocks, which fit into a beautifully balanced row grid of 4x4 squares.
Final Thought
The Daydreams Quilt is a striking example of how we love quilting; how simple elements such as the humble HST can be combined to create an intricate overall design. The super-charged contrast between a standard pastel and the Ava Kate collection is enough to demonstrate the versatility of this pattern. This is such a fun project for any level, with a great opportunity to play with value and hone your piecing skills.
