| Rose Garden Quilt |
Romantic and vintage yet crisp and satisfying, I think you're about to fall in love with your next patchwork project—The Rose Garden Quilt.
This pattern, designed by the most talented Ariga Mahmoudlou for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, is a beautiful example of the gorgeous vintage-inspired Cassandra Fabrics collection. It brings together a muted, understated palette of sky blue, warm apricot, cream and deep shadow grey to deliver sophisticated and beautiful, large floral prints.
The Design & Construction Breakdown
This design quilt, at a generous 61” x 77” is just right for a cosy couch throw or a beautiful bed quilt top. The quilt is based on 12 large 16-1/2” square blocks set in a simple 4 by 3 pattern.
It's all about the way the blocks are assembled. The pattern is formed by Half-Square Triangles (HSTs), which are blocks that are sewn together from two different colors of triangles to create a square shape. The pattern consists of Half-Square Triangles (HSTs), which are blocks made by sewing two different colored triangles together to form a square, creating a star-like design radiating outwards from the center.
This is the pattern you have to love to piece because:
- Fussy-Cutting Potential: The big center squares on each block are practically asking to be the center of attention since they're the largest with the most colourful motifs in the Cassandra line.
- Skill-Building Rhythm: This layout is great if you're learning how to line up or nest your points, or how to press seam allowances in alternating directions to make the seam look smooth.
- Stunning Borders: The triple-border design creates a sort of picture frame that ties the entire color story together with a wide, dramatic floral outer frame.
If you are searching for a handmade gift that is elaborate to make but has a systematic approach to its construction, or you want to finish some free time at the sewing machine, then this pattern is a dream come true. The layout is also available for free download from Robert Kaufman so that it can be easier than ever to grab the rotary cutter and get stitching.
