| Chevron Falls Quilt |
Want your next quilting creation to be both beautiful and bold geometrically, but also rich and textural artistically? The Chevron Falls Quilt is a beautiful Chevron design from the talented team of the Banyan Batiks Studio! This design is a must-try if you're as fond of the fluid and vibrant styles of batik fabrics as I am. A traditional chevron design with a modern 'cascade' style that perfectly highlights the individual characteristics of hand-dyed materials.
Here are some key points about the Pattern:
Now, let's take a quick look at the minimum requirement for this free pattern:
- Finished size: This quilt will measure around 64" x 75", a wonderful throw or lap quilt to add to your living room.
- Skill Level: It is rated for a Confident Beginner. With 1/4" seam allowance and the ability to cut straight lines, you can definitely do this!
- Fabric & Yardage Breakdown: Your quilt top will require 1 5/8 yards of Fabric A, 2 yards of Fabric B (you'll need for your inner units and outer border), 1 1/4 yards of Fabric C, 7/8 yard of Fabric D to form your crisp background, and 1 1/4 yards of Fabric E to create your inner border and binding. Be sure to cut or roll out 4 1/8 yards of backing and 72" x 86" of batting.
This original design comes in two beautiful color options, one warm and earthy (Rust) and a cool and tranquil (Jade). In either case, the composition is really a visual treat on how gradients, with contrasting motifs, create the flow of a geometric design.
Creating flawless chevrons with Smart Construction:
Chevron Falls is so cool because of how it was made. The Banyan Batiks Studio team devised an efficient strip piecing assembly process to avoid wrestling with confusing bias edges and tiring half-square triangles.
You will be able to put together long strip sets by sewing various strips of fabrics side to side. These strip sets are then cross cut to specific block styles, numbered as Unit 1 to Unit 7. With clean straight cuts instead of stretchy bias edges, it is so much easier to maintain square blocks and crisp points.
When units are ready, the magic takes place on the design wall. The blocks are arranged along with your background setting triangles into nine diagonal rows. When joining rows the seams line up easily when the pressing direction is changed (pressing to the left on odd rows, then to the right on even rows). Finally, it will have a 2" inner border and a 2 1/2" outer border to make it to its final size.
From the expert among you who wants to create a cozy quilt for that weekend to the novice who's eager to expand your layout abilities, the Chevron Falls Quilt supplies a lovely and relaxing path to an amazing outcome. Time to pick up the rotary cutter and sew!
