Unveiling the Garden Echo Quilt: A Paisley Peacock Masterpiece
The Garden Echo Quilt is also referred to as the Paisley Peacocks and a Posy design, and it is a must sew if you are looking for a show-stopping project that will give your bright fabric collection a show-stopper! This pattern was designed by the creative genius of Brenda Miller of Bear Creek Quilting Company to enhance the fabulous Paisley Peacock collection from the master quiltist Hoffman California Fabrics.
The novelty prints are large enough to be attention-grabbing, but also give way to an elegant, detailed construction that makes this quilt so captivating. It finishes at a versatile size of 48” x 62” that is ideal for a statement throw or a luxurious decorative wall hanging to quickly set the tone in a room.
The following are the most notable features of the construction in the pattern:
- Masterful Fussy Cutting: The design is extensively relying on the beautiful 13½" x 13½” fussy cutting peacock blocks. It is a great chance to practise your fabric placement, perfect framing of your stunning birds and really play with the visual impact before making your cuts.
- Appliqué Floral Accents: A lovely central Posies block is pieced with double stick fusible web appliqué as an organic contrast to the angular piecing of the surrounding blocks.
- Use of 1½" sashing strips, and contrasted sashing squares, gives the effect of the "echo" as the title suggests. This clever layout for blocks makes the large blocks look like a beautiful picture hanging in a gallery.
This is a very rewarding project with rich metallic accents, silver medallions and deep turquoise colors on the Paisley Peacock fabric. If you're the kind of person that enjoys working with block settings and changing what color you want to slice into the yardage, you'll be able to experiment to your heart's content with this traditional, but yet striking, layout.
Final Thought
The Garden Echo Quilt is a super idea quilt, and an outstanding example of the way pattern design can enhance specialty fabrics without overpowering the maker's skill. You can follow all of the recommended cool-toned colors or experiment with other colors for the background, you won't be disappointed by those peacocks with the fussy cut. Happy piecing!
