For an easy to do quilt that seems like a very complex design, Connie Kresin Campbell's Who's Who Quilt from Freemotion by the River is a great option. This great 38″ square is a versatile design that can be used for one of the most popular applications: as a decorative wall hanging, or on the other hand, as a baby quilt.
The concept of the project is to extend outward from a central block in layers of rows and borders. The original design, created by Ro Gregg for Fabri-Quilt, uses at least seven different fabrics, including main quilt prints, dark and light teals, greens, browns and a cream neutral, to provide colour contrast in the design.
The focal square is made with simple patchwork methods that surround an owl print focal square with easy-to-sew flying geese blocks. The inner block is versatile and could be used to make more blocks for a bigger quilt top.
