Scrap-Busting Magic: The Stringalicious Quilt Pattern.
Hello fellow quilters! Your scrap bins are probably overflowing with beautiful leftover fabrics waiting to be used for just the right project — like I am. Today I'm here to give you an amazingly cool pattern for busting the scaps! It's the Stringalicious Quilt and it was very generously designed by the amazing Becky Tillman Petersen of Quilted Twins. When you're looking for a bold, eye-catching project that will do a lot to shrink your string and scrap pile, this colorful pattern may be your next go-to finish.
Quilt Measurements and Block Information
The Stringalicious quilt is not a small weekend throw, rather it is an impressive and generous quilt, measuring approximately 90½” x 102” once finished. This will create a wonderful large bed quilt that will look lovely and give a dramatic flair of color to any room. The overall design is based on the beautiful combination of two different 7.5-inch blocks. The first is the beautiful Chain blocks—with a nifty nine-patch center that spreads outwards. Secondly, the pattern uses the namesake String blocks. In order to make these you will actually be making a very impressive 288 little 3.5" string blocks to be joined with crisp white sashing strips to make the larger 7.5" blocks.

Let's discuss how much yardage and materials you will need to collect to get started. A good amount of background cloth will be needed, about 7 ¼ yards of white cloth to make those bright colors stand out. The colored items will require 2¾ yards of very bright scraps for the chain blocks and side setting triangles. Besides having plenty of scrap strings to make those 288 smaller ones, plus about ¾ yard for binding. The last thing that stands out about this quilt is its construction. The blocks are stacked on point to create a dynamic, cascading diamond look at the end of the top. This angled design will also mean that you will be making side setting and corner triangles to elegantly square up the fantastic top.

One thing I love about the Stringalicious pattern made by Becky is that it's incredibly forgiving and creative. There is no need to worry about the fussy cutting or matching up with the ideal designer collections. Is a time to blend, combine, and interact with color naturally. A foundation piece for your strings onto paper or a direct sew between strings can be relaxing as the same steps end up creating a beautiful visual presentation.
