| Cat Walk Quilt |
Today, if you are a dog-loving quilter, you have a treat for yourself! We are entering into a project that is just in line with all this playfulness and quirkiness: Cat Walk Quilt, designed wonderfully by Jessica Swift at Art Gallery Fabrics.
This adorable FREE pattern uses the oh, meowi fabric collection. If you haven't seen these prints yet, prepare to fall in love. There is an assortment of fun and fanciful cat-themed artworks in the collection including Caturday Fun, Kattaland Flora, Untangled Strings and so on. It supplies a lovely range of soft pastels combined with vibrant colors such as Empire Yellow, Cabernet and Field of Lavender Pure Solids.
A Purr-fect Modern Project
The key to the fantastic Cat Walk Quilt is its clever and modern configuration. It's a complete 36" x 51" and would make a perfect wall hanging, play mat, or beautiful cat quilt for a family who loves cats.
At the bottom, there is a beautifully structured, multi-colored brick-style design, as if it were a sidewalk or a colorful playground. The rows are sewn by using different lengths of 2½” wide strips to create crisp sashing (which the pattern calls for), the smooth white Art Gallery Fabrics, which makes each print stand out.
The real game show stopper, though: On the top of the quilt you take a large 13" window of sashing fabric and appliqué a chic, chic, cat figure directly onto the top. It just looks like a pony looking over a rainbow wall!
Note: The bottom rows are a small geometric cut, so pressing seams open or carefully nesting will help the rows stay lined up for the perfect finish. The applique cat at the top is a case in point: A little fusible web and a clean blanket stitch or zig-zag stitch on the machine will keep it in place and looking beautiful.
