Welcome quilters and fabric lovers! Here's to my quilting corner again! There is something so soothing and stunning about the winter season that I always find it irresistible to capture it in a warm quilt, and when I do, it's always a favorite! It's just so magical to be able to take a piece of fabric and create a window that opens onto a snowy wonder land.
Today I'm really excited to share a pattern that does just that – and then some, with a really neat technique for the design. I'm referring to the amazing Scenic Snowfall Fracture Quilt by talented quilter Pam See, for the beautiful fabric line Timeless Treasures.
Elevating the Traditional Fabric Panel
While fabric panels are great for making a beautiful quilt in a flash, sometimes as quilters we'd like to put our own twist on it and not stick with the tried-and-tested borders. It is this particular pattern that really shines. It features beautiful Scenic Snowfall Fabric Panel (Winter-C4629), a textured frosty forest landscape print that effortlessly brings you to a serene, snow-covered forest.
Instead of leaving the entire panel intact and moving on, Pam See's design uses a clever “fractured” approach to create a very dynamic and architectural scene by breaking up the scenery and reassembling it.

This pattern is a great introduction to try a fracture or window pane quilt for those who haven't done one before. On closer inspection, the pattern is actually quite easy to execute but still looks like a sophisticated finished piece that you could hang on the wall.
The key is to carefully cut the beautiful Scenic Snowfall panel into seven pieces that are all 3 ½" x 42 ½".
The real design magic occurs when the lengths of solid Ivory fabric are added to the top and bottom of each individual strip, and then separated by crisp 2" sashing to move the original landscape up and down. It has an optical effect, like gazing through a window with multiple panes at a perfectly white, winter forest. There are also four entirely unique corner blocks, which nicely frame the piece and connect the border colors.

Don't begin your inventory of fabric or shopping for a quilt shop before you read the following information gleaned direct from the pattern:
- Finished Quilt Size: 47 ½" x 67 ½". This would be just the right size for a large wall hanging, an elegant hallway display, or a comfortable lap quilt.

- Background Fabric: Ivory fabric (Fun-C8224) will be required for background fabric – 1 ⅝ yards. This negative space is essential to vibrantly making the broken landscape stand out.
- Pro tip to success: It needs to be cut correctly! Labeling and maintaining the seven panel strips in strict numerical order (1-7), is important because the scenery will line up properly once the layout is shifted.

The Scenic Snowfall Fracture Quilt provides just that. It makes you think about commercially printed panels differently, and gives you the knowledge that, with some slicing, shifting and reassembling, you can take printed fabric and turn it into modern textile art.
