The Chantrell Simplish Quilt is a Beautifully Simple Weekend Project!
Welcome everyone to the sewing room! This is the kind of thing I would always be looking for – something that would be visually striking and simple to piece up. Sometimes, we all want to make a beautiful creation, but maybe we don't have the time or energy to draw difficult curves, make tiny triangles or do some complicated foundation paper piecing. This is where Chantrell Simplish Quilt steps in.
This quilt pattern, created by the phenomenally talented Anne Rowan, and featured as a perfect project by Shabby Fabrics is a breath of fresh air. I'm going to take a deep dive into the Chantrell Simplish Quilt, discuss the wonderful fabric that makes this quilt so beautiful, and share some of the main points from the pattern that make it so easy to stitch.
The Collection of fabric by Chantrell is truly a magic.
First of all, before we start to discuss the mechanics of the pattern, we need to discuss the fabric. Producing a collection like Chantrell for Wilmington Prints is really a bit like having an inkling of what a peaceful, flowery garden should look like.
Delicate florals, elegant butterflies and gorgeous botanical motifs define this line, which leads to a serene oasis. The versatility of the fabric is only matched by the colour that is used so masterfully in this fabric collection. Soft, romantic pinks, soothing greens and warm creams stand in harmony, with beautiful and rich darks such as midnight and black grounding the lighter colors, which make them sing.
With the use of these fabrics, you are not only creating a quilt but also the soothing beauty of nature in your home. If you don't use your stash fabric, but you have a medium-to-large scale floral print that you've been saving up for something special, the Chantrell Simplish pattern is ideal for it.
Details for breaking up the pattern.
Now that you've got the pattern, let's dive into the details and see how to use it, which is available for free download from Shabby Fabrics. It is a very appropriate name "Simplish". It appears to be an intricate, woven fabric, but the geometry and cutting are superbly clarified for you.
Before you begin cutting, here are some important details to keep in mind:
- Quilt Size: Quilt will be a generous 56 1/2” x 70 1/2” finished size. This makes for a perfect oversized lap quilt, or a cozy throw for your living room sofa.
- Precut Friendly: One of the best things about this pattern is that it is 100% made for precut fabrics! This pattern uses a 5 Karat Mini Pack (24 5" squares), a 10 Karat Mini Pack (5" x 10" pieces and 5" squares) and a 2-1/2" Strip Pack (jelly roll style strips). This pattern requires a 5 Karat Mini Pack (24 5" squares), a 10 Karat Mini Pack (5" x 10" pieces and 5" squares) and a 2-1/2" Strip Pack (jelly roll style strips).
- You'll find that you need only about 5/8 yard of binding for this lovely project to be beautifully bound.
To explore the Piecing Process, why we love “Simplish”.
This piecing sequence will bring a smile to your face if you're a beginner, or simply need a simple and relaxing weekend sew. The whole design is based on finding random fabrics to make a wonderfully scrapy aesthetic.
There is a simple solution for each of the 36 main blocks – just sew a strip of 2-1/2” x 5” between a square of 5” and a piece of 5” x 10”. When your blocks (5" x 16-1/2" unfinished) are ready, you place them side by side horizontally with beautiful sashing in between. The sashing helps control the amount of florals, which would otherwise appear busy, and provides a rest for the eye, tying the whole scrappy look together into a cohesive and elegant finish.
Final Thought
We often force ourselves into creating the quilt that we believe is the most difficult or the time-consuming pattern.Quilters have been putting so much pressure on themselves to pick the hardest technique or that most time-consuming pattern. Anne Rowan's Chantrell Simplish Quilt is a beautiful reminder that quilting can be easy and yet look absolutely stunning. This approach makes use of beautiful fabrics and clever precut friendly geometry to make your heirloom in a fraction of the time. This weekend, pick up your favorite precuts, download the pattern and let your sewing machine do the work!
