Fall in Love with the Amour Quilt: Monique Jacobs
When a fabric line and a quilt design complement each other perfectly, there's a magic that takes place. Looking for your next great sewing challenge? The Amour Quilt is just a project for your cutting table by Amour Quilts designer, Monique Jacobs, and her amazing Amour Collection, created by Maywood Studio. It has a wonderful combination of traditional style and contemporary design, making it a great option for those who want to make a truly heirloom quilt.

A Rich, Romantic Palette
Its refined color palette is what this project is all about. Amour Collection is replacing the brightest of trends with a rich, vintage-inspired color palette. It accentuates plum colours that are saturated, deep violets, subdued sage greens and light cream shades. The prints are well balanced and feature rich, floral designs, romantic text scripts and fine scroll work. The kind of collection that appears complicated and opulent from a distance and profound and artistic, up close.

Taking the Math Out of Mitered Borders
Monique Jacobs' signature design philosophy makes the Amour Quilt a joy to piece. Quilting without the headache is at least what this layout was intended to be, and is often referred to as the “mathematical” way of doing quilt design. The design has been cleverly integrated with quarter square triangles and a large horizontal border stripe around the entire design.

For many makers, the thought of working with a striking border print triggers some anxiety. Beware of stretched bias edges or mismatching corners, as these can prevent beautiful fabric from going out the door. Monique deals with this with her amazing method:
  • Stable Lengthwise Cuts: When cutting borders, cut lengthways down the “stable” grain line, which will help reduce fabric stretch.
  • The Crease and Fuse Method: The bias edges are permanently stabilized with a crisp 45 degree finger press and a thin strip of fusible tape before you sew.

This completely eliminates puckering and distortion which is common in traditional mitered corners, otherwise corners joined at a clean 45 degree angle, without time-consuming math.
