When you've ever fantasized about walking through the spice souqs of Morocco, or the ancient courtyard with all the sun-baked tilework, you're going to love this project.
We are getting into another fabulous free pattern by AGF Studio: Zellige Quilt. The pattern was inspired by the lovely geometric mosaic tiling found in Morocco, which is expertly hand-chiseled, and is beautifully rendered in fabric.
Introducing Marrakesh to Cutting Table.
The fabric used in this quilt makes it truly come to life. The quilt is designed to highlight the Marrakesh Fusion collection by Art Gallery Fabrics and features a mix of rich bohemian and contemporary elements.
Consider fancy patterns, bohemian flowers, and earthy tones. The design features beautiful prints such as Mandala Drops, Brit Boutique and Exotic Flora which are supported by beautiful deep, contrasting blenders such as Spicy Brown and Sand from the Art Gallery Elements line.
Pattern Snapshot
- Finished Size: 56" × 64" (This is the perfect size for your favorite reading chair or a beautiful wall hanging!)
- This week we will be covering Half-Square Triangles (HSTs) and Fussy Cutting.
- The Secret Weapon: The pattern heavily features the Magic 8 Method, which is used to make 8 HSTs at once. This is a construction style for those who enjoy speed and accuracy, and will keep your cutting mat happy.
Inside the Construction
Two different blocks are used to construct the quilt. Block 1 (12 of these will be made) is a lovely "fussy-cut" center with Zanafi Marrakesh (fabric H) surrounded by snowball corners. Block 2 (you'll be making 4 of) utilizes ingenious HST patterns to create the secondary star and mosaic designs that appear throughout the design.
The beauty points are crucial for joining rows and, due to the geometry, it is important to have your seam allowance at exactly 1/4th inch.
